Geography

                                                                                                 Our vision for Geography

At St Mary’s, our Geography curriculum inspires children to be curious, courageous, and compassionate explorers of the world. We provide opportunities for pupils to develop a deep understanding of their local area, their country, and the wider world, encouraging them to ask questions, think critically, and explore with confidence.

Children gain key geographical skills such as map reading, fieldwork and learn to make connections between people, places, and environments. Through the study of real-world issues like climate change and sustainability, we foster a sense of responsibility and empathy, helping children become informed, respectful, and active global citizens.

Our children will be given the knowledge, skills, and values to understand and care for the world around them—with curiosity to explore it, courage to question it, and compassion to protect it.

Inspiring our children

We inspire our children to think like real geographers by exploring the work and impact of influential figures such as Greta Thunberg and Sir David Attenborough. Through Greta’s powerful voice on climate change and David’s lifelong dedication to exploring and protecting the natural world, children learn how geography connects to real-world issues and how individuals, no matter what age, can make a difference!
